Frequently Asked Questions

This is where I’ll be putting my FAQ since many people keep on asking me things, and sometimes asking me the SAME thing over and over again. You can also post a comment if it’s not in the FAQ. I cannot always help you with things, either it was an easy question so I would rather save myself a little time before might getting carpal tunnel. Or it was a complicated question, or was a question that was on here and I want to you to find it out on your own to actually get here and look. DON’T LOOK WITH YOUR MOUTH/HANDS, look with your eyes for once. I’ll try to explain as much as possible, but it’s nearly midnight and I’m getting tired.

What do you use to edit your videos with?
Sony vegas 8.0.

Where do you get your CC?
Refer to the CC list on this site.

How do you do camera movements?
I used Gunmod’s Camera Mod before but then upgraded. If you have already edited your own camera txt file, to make the movements smoother, you should always set up your angles (With ctrl+4 through 9). While in first person camera, press the # for your first angle, and then another number to switch angles. (No further questions about camera movements, PLEASE.) I will not give you my parameters.

What do you use to edit your photos with?
Adobe Photoshop 7.0

How do you do those neat slides for pictures?
I use the default slides that are installed in Sony Vegas Pro 8.0. (Transitions tab)

How do you outline text?
I ONLY know how to outline text in Sony Vegas 7.0 and Pro 8.0. Windows Movie Maker does NOT provide any outlined text (unless you have another or updated version of windows movie maker.) You go to the tab that says Media Generators > Text. Drag the text clip ABOVE your video clips (I always preferred the text always on track number 1.) After you have edited your your font, go to the tab that says Effects. Fiddle with the section that say Draw Outline (and or Draw Shadow) until you are pleased with your font outline. If you made a mistake, you can right click the text & press Edit Generated Media (towards the top of the list.)

How do you pick songs for your scenes?
Every time before I film, I always scrobble through my ipods, youtube, anywhere that has music. I always try to make it as smooth as possible. I don’t just pick any song. I always try to make it match up with the scene and also match up with the lyrics. I know there are a lot of songs you would rather use, but who wants to hear Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl when there’s a sad scene going on? It’s a shame that Youtube has been copyrighting a lot of videos thus making them change their song. I obviously had to do it, and I put a lot of effort into the episodes’ soundtracks. I learned to look for artists/bands that aren’t signed with UMG or any other music company. I try to find ones that are kind of underground, not really known, but should be known? If you get what I’m saying. (I don’t know if that was any help. AHHA)

Do you mind if you could tell me what’s wrong with my videos?
I don’t think I’d be the best person for that. I’m not that great with critiquing videos, it’s just that, I’m just learning myself how to do all these things, it’s kind of like “Huh.. I never knew how to do that before!” for me.

How do you know how to do all the things you know now?
I googled, asked friends, watched videos. It’s all in the process of paitience. Everyone needs to start somewhere. I started with a shitty “short movie”, I still look at that video and I still laugh about how far I have come.
